Antique Scottish P.D. Purves Silk Top Hat with Original Leather Travel Case & Key – Edinburgh c. 1890

A remarkable late Victorian gentleman's silk top hat complete with its original fitted leather travel case, retaining its original key and the retailer's label for P.D. Purves, Hatter, 23 & 24 Albert Place, Leith Walk, Edinburgh. The interior bears the maker's "Second to None" trademark featuring a mounted Highland soldier, adding wonderful Scottish provenance.

Complete hat-and-case sets are becoming increasingly difficult to find, especially with the original fitted case, striped cotton lining, functioning lock, and key still together. This is a beautiful display piece for a library, study, gentleman's collection, or equestrian-inspired interior.

The black silk plush hat retains a handsome profile with a tall 5.5-inch crown, while the richly patinated leather case shows honest wear consistent with over a century of use, giving it exceptional character.

Condition: Very good antique condition. The hat remains well-shaped with light age-related wear. The leather case has attractive patina, scuffs, finish loss, and some surface flaking typical of antique leather, along with minor seam wear.
