Antique Spelling Bee Educational Card Game, c. 1900–1915

A charming early 20th-century educational card game titled The New Card Game: Spelling Bee, designed to make learning lively and social. The original illustrated box proudly promises “Educational, Exciting, Causing Roars of Laughter,” and features a delightful Edwardian-era parlor scene with rich period typography.

The game retains its original deck of cards with decorative patterned backs, along with specialty cards such as the “END” card, all housed in the original box showing honest age-related wear. It also has the original Instructions for the game.  The graphics, scale, and patina make this a particularly appealing example for collectors of early games or for decorative display on a bookshelf or desk.

Sourced in England, this is a wonderful piece of paper ephemera that captures the spirit of turn-of-the-century domestic life and learning.
