An atmospheric antique French oil painting attributed to Charles Léon Méry, depicting what appears to be the flooded banks of the Seine near Paris. A quiet waterside village sits beneath a pale, overcast sky, with rustic buildings, red tile roofs and a small working boat surrounded by floodwater.
Méry was known for his river landscapes and views along the Seine, including scenes around Saint-Ouen and Asnières. The painting is inscribed “Ch. Léon Méry” along the turned edge of the canvas.
