English Copper 1 Gallon Haystack Measure

Late 19th-century English copper haystack measure, made to hold one Imperial gallon. The substantial vessel features the traditional haystack form with a broad circular foot, tapered body, wide flared pouring lip, and large curved strap handle. The body is clearly stamped “1 GALLON,” identifying its original capacity as a working liquid measure.

The copper retains a beautiful warm, aged patina with darkened areas, surface marks, oxidation, small dents, and signs of use that add to its character. Both functional and decorative in origin, this large-scale example makes an especially striking display piece and is a wonderful example of traditional English copperware.
